Our 32 week scan arrived last night and all is fine, EXCEPT there is a "discrepancy between the twins". Little Martha is weighing in at 1714 grams; Arthur 2142 grams. That's about a pound difference. Whilst Dr Shivani has reviewed the report and found everything fine, except for the discrepancy, it is enough to unsettle us. My anxiety is already at a level that causes me more anxiety; I would consider similar to consuming several energy drinks alternating with triple shot lattes. I think I am a little uptight. Hence the wine.
We aren't sure what to expect with the birth and if in fact, the discrepancy means that an earlier birth may be imminent. Arthur is in breech (typical) position Martha cephalic. Anyhow, we are still planning to fly out on 25 February and be in India for the births. I have decided to work only another week of work then commence annual leave, followed by maternity leave. My work is so all consuming that I really want to have a break, albeit short, to stop thinking about work (constantly) and start thinking about the next phase in my life, being a mother.
So, for now, I remain split between my best friends - my HP tablet and my mobile phone. I am soooo looking forward to breaking it off with them (maybe) when I no longer have to rely on their companionship to receive my late night emails and research.
best wishes krissiejam!
ReplyDeleteIt is just so hard, the worrying and wondering!! I am sure Dr S would flag any concern to you so since she didn't, you can find comfort in that. Good idea to leave work early and try to take on a new life...I did that and it was so helpful!!
ReplyDeleteHere is the twin talk: you do have twins, but they are not identical and will grow at their own pace. Our Lily was always the wee one and continues to be the wee one now. There was close to 600 grams difference in their birth weight. She is on the 20th percentile on all the growth charts but has hit all her developmental milestones. Max is the big bruiser in our house running between the 50 -60th percentle and is equally perfect. Each is their own little person.
ReplyDeleteAll the twin books tell you not to compare your babies as they are two individuals who will grow and develop at their own pace and have their own growth spurts, what they don't tell you is that this starts in utero,
We are still early in the process but already up to transfer#4. Waiting on news is the worst. Hopefully in the end, all this stress will be forgotten
ReplyDeletegood luck

It is so hard to think past any 'unusual' comment on a scan. I am sure that all is fine if DR S is not worried. I must admit I worry now when our twins are 5 months that one is 1.3kg heavier but I keep needing to remind myself what CC says in that they are individuals. Good luck. 32 weeks is great!
ReplyDeleteMy brothers are identical twins and one was bigger than the other at birth and now they have just turned 19 and I would say they are exactly the same weight and height. Try not to worry, easier said than done sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI got the same exact email this week! I think it's the way it's worded-- everything is fine, however,... well of course that implies that everything is not fine. I freaked out but was reassured that it is absolutely nothing to worry about thinking of you guys!
ReplyDeleteIt's all been said above so all the best with this very exciting stage!
ReplyDeleteNot long for you now. Every little concern is so worrisome but thinking of you and looking forward to meeting you in Delhi. Wish I could have a break before flying out but not possible for me. Only have 1 day of work before flying out. Take care.
